U of I approves tuition increases

The cost of going to the University of Illinois is going up slightly.

The University of Illinois Board of Trustees voted Thursday to increase tuition rates for Illinois resident undergraduates enrolling this fall by 2.2% at the Urbana-Champaign and Illinois Chicago campus.
 
It would also go up 2% at the University of Illinois Springfield.

Foodmobile in Coles County

The Eastern Illinois Foodbank is offering food giveways on Wednesday, February 12th to help families struggling with food insecurity throughout Coles County.

The distribution is part of the Foodbank's Foodmobile program, a system of mobile food pantries designed to help bring nutritious food to rural or underserved areas.

Jay Gatrell to Deliver Spring Update to EIU Campus Tomorrow

Eastern Illinois University president Jay Gatrell is set to deliver his annual Spring update Wednesday.

Gatrell plans to address EIU' campus achievements as well as plans for Eastern as a whole going forward.

Donuts and coffee will be served in the Doudna Fine Arts Center concourse at 8 a.m. with the president's update taking place in the Dvorak Concert Hall at 8:30 a.m.

Court upholds US ban on TikTok

The Supreme Court has supported the federal law banning TikTok beginning Sunday unless it's sold by its China-based parent company.

The decision cites national security risks tied to TikTok's link to China which outweighs concerns about limiting free speech for the app's 170 million U.S users, said the court.

EIU Hosts Community Breakfast on the National Day of Service

Eastern Illinois University plans to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with an inaugural community breakfast on Monday, the observed federal holiday for the civil rights leader.

Funeral services are set for Cumberland County Coroner Steve Sherwood.

Sherwood (58) passed away on Monday at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, according to his obituary.

Meat Processing Facility Coming to Dieterich

Frichtl Processing and Slaughtering is expanding with a new meat processing and packaging facility in Dieterich, state officials announced Tuesday.

Illinoisans can now choose whether to replace the state flag or keep the current one.

Voters can pick from ten new designs for the flag or anniversary flags from 19-18 and 19-68, according to Capitol News Illinois.
