Eastern Illinois athletic director Tom Michael announced they have hired former 3-time Olympian and 2008 gold medalist Ryan Millar as the team's new head volleyball coach on Wednesday.
Millar is considered one of the greatest middle blockers in American volleyball history.
His collegiate career at BYU spanned four seasons, where he was named All-American every season he played.
Millar also won NCAA Player of the Year honors in 1999, and the Cougars won their first NCAA national championship that season.
Millar was elected to the school's athletic hall of fame in 2009.
Following his time at BYU, Millar played 12 seasons professionally across three continents and six countries, and won the 2007 USA Volleyball Male Player of the Year award.
In 2023, Millar was inducted to the USA Volleyball Hall of Fame, and has spent the past three seasons as an associate head coach for San Diego Miramar College's men's volleyball program.
Millar replaces former head coach Sara Thomas, who resigned after 5 seasons as the team's head coach, and led the Panthers to a NCAA national tournament appearance in 2023.
