Officials Ask Public to Take Safety Precautions After Hunting Deaths

Wednesday, 20 November 2024

State officials released a plea to the public asking residents to be proactive about safety when hunting this season, especially when using tree stands.

Tree stands are the number one source of hunting-related accidents, according to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

So far during the fall 2024 hunting season, Illinois Conservation Police have documented one hunting-related death.

On November 10th, a man fell from a tree stand, after investigators believe he fell asleep.

Illinois recorded four other tree stand fall injuries this year.

In 2023, the state reported 17 tree stand accidents, three of which were fatal.

Last month, an Indiana man died after falling from a tree stand behind his home.
