IDNR Reminds Hunters to Know the Rules on Technology

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is reminding hunters to be mindful of the rules and practices when using technology while hunting.

Some technology to be aware of is the use of drones, electronic bikes, and using artificial intelligence to look up hunting regulations, says IDNR officials.

Using drones in any aspect of hunting or recovering wildlife is unlawful in Illinois, says officials.

"Not only is drone use for hunting unlawful in Illinois, it goes against the spirit of fair chance and widely accepted hunting ethics," said director of the IDNR Office of Law Enforcement Jed Whitchurch.

While Electronic bikes can be used to reach remote hunting locations, the use of e-bikes on any land owned or operated by the IDNR is prohibited, said Whitchurch.

The use of artificial intelligence has grown on popularity, however AI can potentially give incorrect or flawed answers when asked common hunting questions, said IDNR officials.

"AI generated Information can pose a real problem when it comes to hunting laws, which can be very specific and nuanced based on the season, site, and situation," said Phil Borsdorf with the IDNR's Hunter Heritage Program.

The firearm deer season starts November 22 and ends on the 24th.
