A Chicago Bears defensive back is hospitalized after making a tackle in the Bears' preseason finale Thursday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Bears cornerback Douglas Coleman III was taken off the field by ambulance from Arrowhead Stadium.
Coleman went in to tackle Chiefs wide receiver Cornell Powell, but his neck bent awkwardly upon impact.
Medical staffs from both teams rushed onto the field as Coleman laid on the turf motionless.
Before being taken to the hospital, Coleman had movement in all of his extremities and gave a thumbs-up to the Bears' coaching staff, according to Bears head coach Matt Eberflus.
Coleman signed with the Bears this past offseason after a standout tenure with the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League (CFL), and recorded three interceptions, four sacks, and two defensive touchdowns.
