Eastern Illinois' men's and women's soccer teams each picked up their first victories of the 2024 season.
For the first time since 2018, E-I-U's men's team won their season opener, defeating the University of Chicago 3 to 0.
All three of E-I-U's goals were scored in the 2nd half after the Panthers failed to record a shot on goal in the first half.
The win puts the Panthers at 1-0 on the season, and they'll face the Detroit Mercy Titans in their next game on Monday at 5 p.m.
E-I-U's women's team also delivered, defeating Valparaiso 1-0 thanks to a game-winning goal by Kya Trejo.
The Panthers hadn't beat the Beacons in over 20 years, with their last win coming on October 6, 2002.
E-I-U's women's team improved to 1-1-1 on the season, and next up for the Panthers is the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons on Sunday at 4 p.m.
