The Illinois Department of Public Health re-accredited Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center as an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital.
This certification means the hospital staff is well trained and educated to help someone suffering from a stroke, stated Jordan Edwards, the Sarah Bush Lincoln Emergency Services Director.
Strokes are the number 1 cause of disability in the United States, said Sarah Bush Lincoln Neurologist Dr. Fatima Alao.
Time is crucial with strokes, with a person receiving care at the beginning of their symptoms having possibility their symptoms being reversed or the effects minimized, said Dr. Alao.
The hospital being accredited means that people are able to receive critical care close to home, Dr. Alao added.
