University of Illinois Police Chief Alice Cary has accepted a position leading a police department in Colorado, university officials announced Friday.
Cary has led the university's Division of Public Safety since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, they said.
Cary's last day on the job at Illinois will be in September, she said.
The university's Division of Public Safety has opened a national search for a new police chief and executive director.
The U of I says Deputy Chief Matt Ballinger will temporarily fill the position, pending approval from the Board of Trustees.
