Decatur Hospital looks to end services

A Decatur hospital wants to discontinue some of its services.

HSHS St. Mary's seeks approval from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board (HFSRB) to end several services, including inpatient rehabilitation, obstetrics and newborn nursey, pediatrics, and inpatient behaviorial health.

Hospital officials blame the lasting effects of COVID with years of rising labor costs and an uncertain economy.

If the hospital's requests are approved by the state, St. Mary's say they will directly notify all those affected.

The application for these changes is being submitted January 31st, but may not be decided on until March or later, said St. Mary's officials.

As a second phase to St. Mary's modernization plan, HSHS plans to invest around $90 million for a major infrastructure renovation of the current facility to update spaces, and improve patient amenities according to hospital officials.
