A federal judge has sentenced a former substitute teacher from Robinson to five years probation after the woman pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, court records show.
Mykaela Patterson was arrested in February 2022 and charged with one count of possessing child pornography and one count of distributing child pornography. Court documents show FBI agents reported finding thousands of files of child pornography on Patterson's computer and cell phone devices, including 1,965 video files and 1,135 images.
Under an agreement with prosecutors, Patterson pleaded guilty to possing child pornography, and federal prosecutors dropped the charge of distributing child pornography.
Patterson worked as a substitute teacher in the Robinson School District from September 2021 through January 2022, subbing at Lincoln Elementary School, Nuttall Middle School and Robinson High School, according to a statement released by the district at the time of Patterson's arrest.
Patterson successfully completed a criminal background check before being added to the list of available substitute teachers, according to the statement. "Law enforcement and prosecutors do not share details of active investigations with school officials," the statement added.
