Friday, 9 December 2022

The University of Illinois police is launching Operation Winter Watch to prevent campus burglaries during winter break.

Police said there has been a historic rise in burglaries while students are away from campus.

To fight this, they'll be making extra patrols from December 16th to January 17th.

Plain clothes officers in unmarked vehicles will make nightly security rounds and using a mobile security camera to ensure safety on campus, said U of I authorities.

Even with extra patrols, students still to do their part, said police.

Authorities say students need to make sure to lock doors and vehicles before leaving, keep valuables out of sight, and to not have packages delivered to campus addresses while away.
