Charleston firefighters were called to 1136 W Hayes around 8:30 this morning after reports of a structure fire.

When crews arrived one of the four units in the Lincolnshire apartments had smoke and fire coming from the back of the building, said Charleston Fire Chief Steve Bennett.

The fire had burst through one of the apartment windows and climbed up to the second story, said Bennett.

Crews were able to make an aggressive push to extinguish the flames and none of the residents were in any of the four apartments at the time of the fire, said officials.

According to fire officials, the fire appears to have started in the kitchen of one of the apartments.

The apartment in which it began had heavy smoke, fire, and water damage throughout, while the neighboring apartment had minor smoke damage, according to fire officials.

The three residents living in the apartment complex have been relocated due to the extent of the damages, said Bennett.

No injuries were reported in the incident and the fire remains under investigation.
