A Coles County businessman has been sentenced to six months in prison for tax fraud.
Jay Edward Fisher, 53, of Charleston conducted the fraud as owner of Financial Logic insurance agency in Mattoon, according to federal prosecutors.
Between 2013 and 2018, Fisher collected employment taxes from employees but did not pay the money to the IRS., prosecutors said. In total, the fraud added up to $866,838, investigators said.
On November 1, Judge Colin Bruce sentenced Fisher to six months in prison and ordered him to pay restitution.
