A Taylorville High School student faces a felony disorderly conduct charge for allegedly writing a threatening note that led to a lockdown at the school Thursday morning.
The note read “There is a School Shooter in the Building with a gun help (sic),” police said.
Investigators believe Payton Chronister, 18, wrote the note then reported it to school staff himself out of a desire for attention and to get out of class early, police said. Chronister has been charged with felony disorderly conduct, and a judge set his bond at $10,000, court records show.
Taylorville Police Chief Dwaye Wheeler warned students to “stop this nonsense; they will end up in jail.”
