Central Illinois hospitals are responding to Governor JB Pritzker’s announcement Monday that Illinois no longer requires healthcare facilities mandate masks.

Sarah Bush Lincoln announced Tuesday they are no longer requiring visitors wear masks.

“It seems like such a small thing, but after two and a half years, employees, visitors and our patients are glad to not wear masks every day,” said President and CEO Kim Uphoff in a statement. “We have appreciated the support of our community and its mask compliance when in our facilities.”

Carle Health has not changed its policy, a spokesperson told WEIU Wednesday.

“At this time no changes have been made to the mask policy in clinical sessions,” according to a statement released to WEIU. “As we have throughout the pandemic, Carle Health is seriously weighing all considerations.”

Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) is also continuing its mask requirements, a spokesperson for HSHS said.

“Patients, colleagues and visitors are still required to wear masks within all HSHS hospitals and clinics in Illinois, as we still serve areas with higher levels of COVID-19,” according to a statement. “HSHS continues to prioritize providing safe and quality care to our communities, and masking continues to help slow the spread of COVID-19.”
