Champaign Police are asking residents with security cameras to participate in a Security Camera Registration Program.
The program will have camera owners register them with the police department.
Officials said that this program does not give police access to those cameras, just the camera locations and the contact information of the owners.
With this information the police can reach out to residents who potentially have video that can assist them in their investigations, said authorities.
Registering for the program and giving police your security footage is optional, said the Champaign Police.
