Family Killed Returning from Charleston Speedway

Three members of an Indiana family died in a crash early Sunday morning while returning home from competing at Charleston Speedway, authorities said.

Lee Hall, 52, Felisha Hall, 46, and Madison Hall, 18, were riding in a pickup and towing a car trailer when they were hit head-on by a pickup truck shortly after midnight Sunday morning, according to authorities.  All three died in the crash near Indianola.

“They were always a pleasure to be around … down-to-earth, good people,” said Charleston Speedway announcer Rob Calhoun. “It’s just so tragic what happened to them.”

Calhoun had known the family for about 15 years, since meeting them in the stands.

“A lot of people don’t understand how big of a thing racing is, because the racers will work together, even though they’re competing against each other,” Calhoun said. “Lee was one of those, because he always made sure he helped whenever he could.”

Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.
