A fire at a Paris apartment building Saturday morning left two people dead and sent two others to area hospitals, the Edgar County Coroner’s Office said.
Firefighters responded to the apartment building at 501 South Central St. shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday. A tenant, 52-year-old Tammi Keefer, called 911, reported the fire and said she was unable to leave her apartment, according to the coroner’s office.
When crews arrived, they found the building fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters found Ms. Keefer’s body in an upstairs apartment and found the body of 72-year-old Bobby Turner in his downstairs apartment, authorities said.
Two other tenants were taken to area hospitals. One has since been released and another is expected to be released, the coroner’s office said.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal, Paris Fire Department, Paris Police Department and the Edgar County Coroner are investigating the fire, authorities said.
