Illinois Researchers Developing Emergency Ventilator

Tuesday, 31 March 2020

Some of Illinois' best and brightest are working to develop an emergency ventilator.

It's called the Illinois RapidVent, and was designed by U of I's Grainger College of Engineering and Carle Health.

The device would deliver oxygen at the right pressure to patients who can't breathe on their own.

So far, the Illinois RapidVent prototype has performed like current commercial ventilators, which are in very short supply.

Researchers say the next step is identifying partners that could produce the ventilators on a larger scale.
