The Coles County Board issues a Disaster Declaration of Public Health Emergency following an emergency meeting Wednesday morning.
The action was taken after a postive case of COVID-19 was confirmed at Sarah Bush Lincoln March 13th.
The declaration activiates the Coles County Emergency Management Agency Plan and would allow the county to qualify for financial assistance from the state and federal government in the future.
Coles County Board Chair Michael Zuhone says there no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county, but officials are waiting on additional test results.
Zuhone also said the courthouse will remain open with the security and protection measures currently in place, but that could change as the situation warrants.
The Illinois Department of Public Health said the postive test last Friday at Sarah Bush Lincoln was a Cumberland County resident.
The declaration takes effect immediately and will remain in place for seven days, unless extended by the county board.
