The Charleston Fire Department releases more information on a fire at the former Brown Shoe Factory on Division Street.
Charleston Fire Chief Steve Bennett says crews were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. Monday and found smoke and fire coming from the north side of the large four-story structure.
Bennett says the fire was contained to one room due to efforts of the firefighters and the construction of the building, so there was minimal structural damage.
He says the old factory is currently being used as a storage facility, and most damage was limited to the contents of the room where the fire was located.
No one was in the structure at the time of the fire.
Bennett says the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
