Eastern Illinois University will conduct online courses through the remainder of the spring semester.
The announcement came Tuesday afternoon from EIU President David Glassman.
"This decision, though difficult, was made in response to state and federal best-practice suppression and mitigation strategies to help contain the COVID-19 virus," Glassman wrote in an email to EIU faculty, students, and staff.
Glassman says despite this latest action, the university will remain open for the remainder of the semester, including residence and dining centers, the library, student service offices, and general business offices, for those who choose to remain on campus.
He said even as those offices are open, a lot of the work will be conducted remotely.
