A Charleston man is arrested after police say he attempted to pass a counterfeit bill.

Charleston Police said 42-year-old Matthew Murphy was arrested Friday evening on forgery charges.

Officers said Murphy made at least two attempts to have a counterfeit one hundred dollar bill, with what appeared to be Chinese writing on the back, broken into smaller bills at The Penalty Box Bar and Grill.

A court hearing is pending.
