Alcohol rules will be temporarily changing in Champaign.

March 4th and 5th are the days where the University of Illinois students host their "Unofficial St. Patricks Day" party, where they typically drink alcohol all day and night.

Champaign's mayor Deborah Feinen has issued an emergency order saying some businesses in campustown can not serve alcohol from 6-10 a.m. on those days.

Feinen also implemented that these businesses may not sell beer in pitchers from 10 a.m. Friday, March 4th until 2:30 a.m Sunday, March 6th.

She says all drinks must be served in aluminum containers or plastic or paper cups.

Police say, last year 138 city ordinance violations were issued.

They say most of the violations involved public possession of alcohol.
