Rauner Vetos MAP Funding

Monday, 22 February 2016

The Governor followed up on his promise to veto SB2043, which would have funded community colleges and the state's Monetary Award Program.
The decision, at least at Eastern, will not affect the students, but it does make an impact on the University's budget.
Eastern has been paying out-of-pocket for MAP grant funding and the bill would have given the university between $7 million and $9 million to cover the costs.

President Glassman also sent an in-depth email to students regarding Eastern's role in the budget impasse.
Glassman says the university "has every expectation" it will receive its 2016 fiscal year appropriations by the end of the semester.
He says the school will not close nor programs be cut.
The President and other state and local leaders are speaking tomorrow in the Cougill Foyer of Old Main to address the budget impasse and how it is affecting the university and surrounding communities.
Among those on-hand are Sen. (R-Mattoon) Dale Righter, Rep. (R-Charleston) Reggie Phillips and the mayors of Charleston, Mattoon and Effingham.
The event starts tomorrow morning at 10.
