State budget problems could soon have a major effect on Eastern Illinois University.
EIU President David Glassman says the budget impasse will bring potential layoffs and furlough time for university employees.
Glassman sent a budget update letter to the campus on Monday, in it he says the school hasn't received its state appropriation of about $40 million dollars.
Glassman says layoffs and furloughs will be possible if the state appropriation continues to be delayed.
President Glassman says cuts that take effect immediately include non-educational equipment purchases, delaying all maintenance and repairs that are unrelated to safety and security, freezing most employee-reimbursed travel, and freezing all hiring within the fiscal year 16's funding.
