Governor Bruce Rauner has suspended 26 million dollars in social services and public health grant money to narrow a 1.6 billion dollar budget gap.
Services suspended include funerals and burials of public aid recipients, as well as funding for autism, HIV and AIDS awareness programs.
Rauner spokeswoman Catherine Kelly says the governor's office worked with the Departments of Human Services and Public Health to see which grants could be suspended, and which services should take priority to receive funding.
