Shortly after taking office Illinois governor Bruce Rauner presented a budget proposal cutting nearly 400-million dollars from the state's funding for higher education. Colleges and universities say governor Rauner's budget plan involves drastic cuts that just aren't feasible. News Watch's Jesse Guinn spoke about the issue with Eastern Illinois University president William Perry and after crunching the numbers Perry says the decision is the wrong move. Eastern isn't the only school that may see a loss in funding. One of the most hard-hit institutions may be Southern Illinois University. Under governor Rauner's proposal the school's Edwardsville campus may see 20-million dollars less. And the Carbondale campus could see 44-million dollars cut from their state funding. The higher education cuts are part of Rauner's proposal to bridge a 6-Billion dollar budget gap without raising taxes.
