A man who tried to escape from jail will now spend more time behind bars.
Officials say James Charboneau was sentenced an additional three and a half years for his escape attempt from the Coles County Jail in July.
Police say Charboneau pleaded guilty to charges of escape and damage to government property.
Officials say while everyone else was sleeping Charboneau tried to weaken the glass of a shower room window with a metal object.
He was in jail for property damage convictions.
His cellmates eventually spotted the activity and alerted officers.
