A bird in central Illinois tested positive for Avian influenza, also known as bird flu.
The bird was collected in Crawford County, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
"While the current public health risk is low, Crawford County Health Department is monitoring the situation carefully and working with local and state partners to assess and respond to humans with animal exposures," said the Crawford County Health Department.
The best way to prevent bird flu is to avoid direct contact with sick or dead birds, poultry, or other animals, including dairy cows, said the department.
Other ways to prevent sickness include choosing products made with pasteurized milk instead of raw milk, cooking meat to a safe temperature to kill bacteria, and wearing recommended CDC approved personal protective equipment when handling dead animals, the department said.
Earlier this year, a bird collected in Effingham County also tested positive for Bird Flu.
