Current State Flag Wins Contest

The results for the Illinois flag redesign contest were released Thursday morning and showed the public favored in retaining the current state flag.

Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said this follows after a five-week voting period.

Voters had the option to choose from the Illinois Flag Commission’s Top 10 new designs which also included the current one.

From nearly 385,000 votes that were received, 43% went to the current flag, said Giannoulias.
    
The Illinois Flag Commission will present its report to the General Assembly by April 1st who will decide if the flag stays or changes.
