Tuscola Woman Honored for Weather Observations

A woman who has served as the official observer of the Tuscola Weather Station since June 2000 has been honored by the National Weather Service for her work.

Ruth Ann Williams has gathered daily temperature, rainfall and snowfall observations without gaps for 25 years, according to NWS.

On February 4, staff from the National Weather Service office in Lincoln presented Williams with the John Campanius Holm Award for outstanding service in the NWS's Cooperative Weather Observing Program, an award that is presented to 25 observers around the United States each year.

"Her reliable daily reports are among the most complete, detailed, and accurate that this office receives," wrote the staff in their letter nominating Williams for the award.

More than 8,000 volunteer observers participate in the nationwide program to prvovide daily weather reports, according NWS.
