Eastern Illinois University plans to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with an inaugural community breakfast on Monday, the observed federal holiday for the civil rights leader.
Organizers said the event will take place in the Grand Ballroom of EIU's MLK Jr. University Union.
The breakfast will start at 8:15am and will follow with a panel discussion.
The panelists will talk about how the university can work with community leaders to create a more inclusive and equitable future for students, said event organizers.
The event is free and open to students, campus faculty and community members, but attendees must RSVP by visiting go.edu.edu/mlkbreakfast.
Organizers said community service opportunities will be available at two locations following the breakfast.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is observed each year on the third Monday in January.
The day encourages Americans to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King through volunteering.
