U of I Expands Transfer Guarantee Plan

Thursday, 16 January 2025

Students who graduated from Illinois high schools and are now attending colleges or universities in the United States will have guaranteed admission to the University of Illinois system as transfer students under a policy announced Wednesday.

The plan expands on the U of I System Transfer Guarantee which launched in 2022 and had applied only to students attending community college in Illinois. More than 4,300 students have been admitted through that guarantee, according to university officials.

The new policy takes effect in Fall 2025 and will apply to students who have earned at least 36 graded, transferable college or university semester hours at the time of application, according to a university news release.

The plan includes all University of Illinois campuses. While students who meet the requirements are guaranteed admission to the system’s university of their choice, they are not guaranteed admission to a specific college or major, university officials said.
