An Edgar County mother accused of trying to kill a young child appeared in court Tuesday to make a plea.

Karlla Tresner was arrested in November and charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery.

According to court documents, Tresner was accused of giving a toddler a substance containing either methamphetamine or amphetamine.

Those documents also allege Tresner injected a man with a toxic substance.

Tresner originally pleaded not guilty, but in court Tuesday she pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 30 months probation.

Records show Tresner will pay court fines, be subject to random drug testing and undergo a mental health and substance abuse evaluation.

Attorneys decided not to prosecute Tresner on charges of attempted murder.
