One person has died following a home invasion in Shelby County.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said they received a call regarding a home invasion in rural Herrick around 5:45 a.m. Friday.
The sheriff's office identified the suspect as Wade M. Barnes, 19, of Cowden who was known to deputies from a current criminal case involving aggravated fleeing and other prior incidents.
Sheriff Brian McReynolds said during the break-in, Barnes threatened the occupants, who were armed.
The occupants verbally warned Barnes from entering the residence, and when Barnes failed to do so he was shot, said Sheriff McReynolds.
Barnes was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Shelbyville where he died, said McReynolds.
The investigation by the sheriff's office, the Illinois State Police, coroner and Shelby County State's Attorney is ongoing.
