The Effingham Fire Department will make door-to-door rounds for the departments Smoke Detector Blitz.
Firefighters will come to resident's homes, and install smoke detectors or inspect existing ones for free, said officials.
They will go to homes between Maple St. and Merchant St., and Evergreen Ave. and Temple Ave. on Tuesday and Wednesday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., said department officials.
If home owners are not present when firefighters come around, they can call (217) 342-2555 to schedule an appointment, said officials.
The blitz is done in partnership with the American Red Cross and their Sound-the-Alarm Campaign, said department officials.
