Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul put out a statement warning the public about hurricane relief charity scams on Friday.
Raoul's office is encouraging people to take the extra step to make sure their donations go to legitimate causes that will directly contribute to people affected.
The office said to be wary of requests for clothing, food or other non-monetary items.
They also said to avoid donating until all your questions about the charity have been answered, and to avoid sending money through apps like Venmo or Zelle.
Watch out for hallmark scam tactics, like pressure to donate in cash or offers to send someone to pick up your donation, Raoul said.
