Eastern Illinois University Lends a Helping Hand to Students Impacted by Recent Hurricanes

Wednesday, 9 October 2024

Recent hurricanes have devastated thousands of communities across the nation, but here at home, Eastern Illinois University is reaching out to help students who's education has been disrupted by those storms.

Affected students will be offered in-state tuition rates and will have all application and late fees waived, said EIU Vice President for Enrollment Management Josh Norman.

"We certainly hope anyone affected by Hurricanes Helene or Milton are able to overcome the damage and destruction they already have or will cause, and to the degree possible that things return to normal for every Hurricane victim as quickly as possible." said Norman

This isn't the first time Eastern has responded to devastation caused by hurricanes.

Similar assistance was offered by the university for students and families impacted by Hurricane Florence in 2018 and Hurricane Ian in 2022, said Norman.

"We also want to be proactive in offering our services, knowing there are students who may be displaced by Helene's or Milton's large geographical footprints. If EIU can help any of those impacted students, we absolutely will." said Norman.

The University is encouraging impacted students to contact EIU's Admissons Office at (877) 581-2348 or by email at admissons@eiu.edu.
