Champaign County health officials have reported their first human case of West Nile Virus this year.
The affected person is a Champaign County resident in their 60s, according to the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District.
The announcement follows reports of single human cases in Coles and Champaign County earlier this year.
West Nile Virus is spread by the bite of mosquitoes that have fed on infected birds, according to health officials. Mosquitoes remain active until the first hard freeze, said Champaign-Urbana Public Health District Administrator Julie Pryde.
