The Herrick Fire Department will now be able to operate as a warming and cooling center thanks to a $20,000 donation from the Shelby Electric Cooperative.
The department will use the money to purchase a generator to provide electrical power to their station during extended power outages, while also allowing the station to operate as a warming, cooling, or emergency relief center when needed, said officials.
The department hopes to use any left over money to upgrade equipment in their emergency vehicles and radios, said officials.
