Athletes are ready for a big event next weekend, but it's not what you may be expecting.
Athletes and family members will gather on September 21st for the 41st annual Special Olympics Family Fun Festival at Lake Land College!
The SOFF has many things in store such as wagon rides, musical performances, parades and even a torch running, said event organizers.
Each athlete is accompanied by a "Friend-For-A-Day" volunteer who will help their designated athlete with navigation, making sure they are fed and hydrated, and will even join them in different games and activities, said event organizers.
Since 1984, SOFF has brought together hundreds of athletes and 1,000 volunteers from all over Illinois, said Sarah Greider of Consolidated Communications.
The Special Olympics International said it's the "biggest event of its kind in the world".
