Villa Grove Schools, Police Respond to Social Media Reports of Threats

Tuesday, 10 September 2024

Officials in Villa Grove are adding extra police presence and social work services in schools this week following reports of threats that were found to be not credible over the weekend.

In a post to social media, Police Chief Robert Rea and School Superintendent Carol Munson said an initial reported threat on Friday was found not to be credible. They said authorities investigated additional threat reports on social media over the weekend and found no danger to school students or staff.

“Social media posts have been found to have been fabricated based on nothing more than rumors,” the superintendent and chief wrote. “The sources of the rumors are being addressed.”

District leaders say they are stepping up monitoring of all school areas and are strictly adhering to school rules about backpacks.
