The Champaign Police Department is celebrating a Tier II accreditation from the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program, a designation that means the department's policies and practices meet 181 professional standards.
The designation follows an on-site assessment of the department in April 2024, officials said.
Of 1,200 law enforcement agencies in Illinois, only 64 have achieved Tier II accreditation, Champaign officials said.
