A new Charleston Schools superintendent is approved for the position next summer.

The school board announced the hiring of Chad Burgett starting July 1st 2024.

Burgett is currently the district's assistant superintendent, but over his 27 years in education, he's been a teacher, assistant principal, and principal.

He says he's excited to provide the best for Charleston's youth.

"I am looking forward to continuing to move our district forward and providing our best for Charleston's youth", said Burgett.

Burgett will take over for Todd Vilardo who's retiring after seven years in the position.

"I have full confidence that he will provide the needed leadership among our entire board and administrative team for the approaching years", said Vilardo.

Vilardo's last day is June 30th, 2024.
