Family Pets Killed in House Fire

A Mattoon family loses their pets in a house fire.
That fire happened Wednesday morning at 707 Oklahoma Avenue just after 8am, said Mattoon Fire Chief Jeff Hilligoss.
Fire chief Jeff Hilligoss said it appears the fire started from an electricial problem behind a kitchen freezer.
He said while no humans were hurt in the fire, crews tried but were not able to save a dog and two cats.
The residence is considered uninhabitable, and the family is being assisted by Red Cross, said Hilligoss.
