Illinois State Police are leading an investigation of an officer-involved shooting in Rantoul that left a Champaign man dead.
The shooting occurred during an incident around 11:18 p.m. Monday, when a Rantoul police officer was investigating a stolen vehicle, according to the Rantoul Police Department.
The department said shots were fired during that incident, and they have said they will release additional information following an investigation into the shooting.
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup has identified the man killed as Azaan Lee, 21, of Champaign and formerly of Chicago. Lee died of a gunshot wound to the left leg that perforated an artery, according to Northrup.
