Eastern Illinois University announced it's new President today in front of faculty members, and community members.
The new president, Dr. Jay Gatrell, is Eastern's current Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.
He was introduced to a full crowd of students, staff and people in the community.
"It's an honor to lead the institution, and a position that's especially meaningful to a first-generation college graduate," said Gatrell.
Gatrell will take over for David Glassman who's retiring June 30th.
Glassman plans to return to the Eastern faculty after his retirement.
Gatrell will start his official term as president later this year with an annual salary around $352,000, plus a housing allowance.
