A federal judge has sentenced a Crawford County couple to prison time after they pleaded guilty to committing identity theft using items stolen from vehicles.
Zachary Patrick, 31, of Oblong, and Briana Blair, 31, of Robinson each pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit financial institution fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Illinois.
The two broke into vehicles, stole checks and IDs, then used the checks and IDs to withdraw thousands of dollars from banks, prosecutors said. Police arrested the two while they were breaking into a vehicle at a hotel parking lot in Brazil, Indiana, authorities said.
This week, a federal judge sentenced Patrick to five years in prison with an additional five years of supervised release and sentenced Blair to 25 months in prison and three years of supervised release.
