Another new law is at the center of a telephone scam.
The Illinois Sheriffs' Association said scammers are calling people asking for money to help fight the new assault weapons ban.
They said the I.S.A. never solicits by telephone and sends membership information through mail, social media, or their website.
Sheriffs said if you receive one of these calls with someone claiming to be with the I.S.A., do not give out any financial information and hang up.
They said scammers are using phone number: (224) 324-3356, and when called it says the caller has reached the "fundraising center."
